PHANTO SPECTRA

An odyssey of the fair. A ghost in the town. A ride through memory, presence, and what is yet to come.

Phanto Spectra is an immersive, geo-located binaural sound installation that draws you into the spirit of the fair — part documentary, part dream. A story that slips into the invisible, where past, future, and spirit collide.

The work is inspired by the Ghost Illusion shows once staged on the Whitesands in the late 1800s and early 20th century. Here, that spectacle is reborn through sound, voice, and audio trickery — conceived, directed, and composed by local artists and designers.

Step inside and listen. The fair speaks through voices, stories, and sounds gathered from showpeople and townsfolk. Past, present, and future weave together in a haunting theatrical experience — intimate, experimental, and timely, arriving at a decisive moment for Dumfries’ Rood and Spring Fairs.
