BIO-FLUORESENCE

Blair Witch meets scientific exploration which will be projected inside the Supper Club in a secret location in our first floor.

Summerhill Community Centre made a voyage into the farthest part of Galloway at the Wood of Cree Nature Reserve.

Armed with special goggles and lights, this short film shows what came to light that night in September 2024.

Created in partnership with RSPB, Midsteeple Quarter with a soundscape created with Summerhill Community Centre.

In September 2024, Summerhill Community Centre travelled to the Wood of Cree Nature Reserve with RSVP. Wearing UV glasses, they uncovered nature’s own Northern Lights through the phenomenon of biofluorescence.

This film reflects the journey they took that evening. Over the past year, the group has worked with composer Gary Cameron to create a soundscape that responds to the otherworldly sights and sounds they encountered.

The work invites us to look more closely at the natural world, to notice what is usually hidden, and to reflect on the wonder that appears when we slow down and pay attention.
